Alt-key shortcuts do not work

Problem:
The Alt keyboard shortcut to manipulate ROIs does not work.
This is because the GUI uses the same shortcut for an alternative function (for example move a window around the desktop.

Solution:
In KDE you can change the behaviour of the Modifier Key (to alternatively listen to the Meta
key).

"Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed." error

In openSUSE 10.3, ImageJ with Java 1.6 can give an “Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed.” error that prevents it running.

Open the file /etc/profile in your favourite text editor as the root user.

Then, add the the following statement just before the end of the file:

Help ImageJ Web Site... does not work

In ImageJ versions previous to 1.38k under linux, the Help>ImageJ Web Site and Help>Online Docs... commands run the Netscape browser to open the ImageJ website.

If Netscape is not installed, these commands do not work. One can solve this by providing a symbolic link to the command that launches the installed browser. For example:

By default Ubuntu runs GCJ, the GNU Java, instead of Sun's Java.

The 'easiest' way to enable Sun's Java is to run it from your launcher. For example:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/bin/java -Dplugins.dir=/home/<YOURHOME>/ImageJ
    -Xmx128m -cp /opt/ImageJ/ij.jar:/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/lib/tools.jar ij.ImageJ
